Chemistry Department Slowed
but
Not Stopped by Katrina
|
||
|
Despite
setbacks caused by Hurricane Katrina, the University of New
Orleans Chemistry Department is continuing with its research
and teaching functions. Both
our graduate and undergraduate programs are still operational. The
major impacts of Katrina have been 1) loss of power to the
campus, 2) displacement of students, faculty and staff, and 3)
minor storm damage to the campus.
University personnel have been working hard to repair
storm damage and restore power to the campus.
During this process, classes have continued either at
alternate locations in the New Orleans area or as on line
courses. Many
professors have continued their research at temporary
locations. Our
research programs remain strong, and all federal funding for
research remains in place. Full
university operations are expected to resume on our main
campus on January 30, 2006 when the spring semester begins. We
are still accepting applications for our Ph.D. and M.S.
graduate programs.
Graduate stipends have been adjusted to account for
increased housing costs.
The university is also working to make sure housing is
available for all students. Anyone
interested in our graduate programs should contact the chair
of our graduate selections committee, Dr. John Wiley (jwiley@uno.edu). Updated
